Join the Drops
There's been a lot of talk in the media over the last few months about major water shortages in the South East of England. This isn't a particularly serious problem in Cymru (just goes to show our shite weather does have a plus-side!) In January, the Welsh Assembly debated the new Government of Wales bill, which has basically been designed to strangle any hopes of further devolution (I'll come back to that later). What particularly interests me - and should interest all Republicans and Nationalists is THIS clause - 100b: It basically says that Assembly Measures can be blocked if they “would have a serious adverse impact on water resources in England, water supply in England or the quality of water in England”. There was a programme on about the water shortages this afternoon called "The Pulse". A ticker tape was running along the bottom of the screen with comments from the English public - one of them caught my eye: "What we really need is a new reservoir". Who exactly is "We"? :?

Yes i noticed that clause as well. It really shows how the English establishment view Wales-as basically a "resource" to be used at will,be it coal, steel, water, colonising space whatever.

Wasn't aware that they intended to turn Aberthaw into a nuclear power station. What's your source dai? I know a bit more about this gas pipeline though. It's going to run from Milford Haven to Felindre just outside Swansea, and from there it runs north past Llandeilo and through the Tywi valley before swinging hard right and cutting through the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons national park, which just happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage site. For Plaid's response (useless as usual): http://www.adamprice.org.uk/press/releases/2005-10-27.shtml Opposition from the National Park: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4480046.stm For comparisons with Tryweryn - go here: http://www.stackyard.com/news/2005/10/rural/felindre.html Bribery offers to buy off some of the 500 farmers affected on some of the best agricultural land in Cymru here: http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/farming/countryside/tm_objectid=16592432&method=full&siteid=50082&headline=land-offers-issued-for-pipeline-name_page.html
