Is there any event to mark this victory over the English this year? Don't be silly. Brynglas is in Newport, and the only 'Battle of Brynglas' that 99% of people care about is the battle to get through the Brynglas Tunnels every day...

Don't be silly. Brynglas is in Newport, and the only 'Battle of Brynglas' that 99% of people care about is the battle to get through the Brynglas Tunnels every day... Only because our own history has for generations been kept from most of the population of Wales, by ensuring that it was obliterated from the school curriculum, and that the people of Wales were encouraged to see themselves as 'British' rather than Welsh. English history conveniently ignores Wales except to see it as a swiftly conquered bog full of ignorant peasants. For those who could/do see further than their every day working lives and the pub, there is a history of Wales which has been deliberately buried. In other parts of Britain and in other countries, history is remembered with vivid historical days and ceremonial acts of rememberance. If we Welsh republicans would be able to reach a critical mass then we may hold enough sway to start the ball rolling with rememberance days being noted throughout Wales so as to at least try to raise the awareness of the rest of the population. I seem to remember someone on this forum saying a little while ago that this is probably the last chance we are going to get to ensure that there is a Cymru for our future generations. Hail to those dedicated people such a Gwynfor Evans and others, who researched and wrote our history lest it be gone forever. The least we can do is make sure that as many Welsh people as possible are woken up to what has/is happening and get them to take note of their own history and make sure it's passed on.
